At the start of this month, Virgin Atlantic Flightstore hosted another one of our iconic experiential trips, where 6 tour operators won the trip of a lifetime to the vibrant city of Atlanta.

After a two-month campaign, alongside Delta Air Lines, Discover Atlanta and The Westin Peachtree Plaza we selected our winners, which included Virgin Atlantic Flightstore’s top Atlanta and North America bookers and our wild card winner!

Day 1: A Smooth Journey to the Peach State

Our journey began at Heathrow Terminal 3, home to the dedicated Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines check-in area. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Delta’s Senior Account Manager, Paul Webb. He ensured the group was smoothly checked in before treating us to an exclusive VIP tour of the premium check-in areas - offering a glimpse into the elevated service premium travellers can enjoy before even reaching security.

Once through security, we boarded our Delta flight and settled into Delta Comfort & Delta Premium, where the journey truly began. The group enjoyed a selection of meals from the onboard menu, accompanied by wine, plenty of conversation, and a few films along the way. From the attentive service to the super-fast WiFi, comfortable pillows and cosy blankets, the flight offered the perfect balance of relaxation and entertainment. Our agents were thoroughly impressed with the onboard experience, noting just how seamless and comfortable the journey felt from start to finish.

Upon touchdown in Atlanta, we were met by a private transfer waiting to whisk us into the heart of the city. Our home for the week was the iconic Westin Peachtree Plaza, an unforgettable landmark that dominates the Atlanta skyline. As we approached downtown, the hotel was impossible to miss – its striking cylindrical design once earned it the title of the tallest hotel in the world.

After check-in, we headed up to our rooms where we were had spectacular panoramic views across Atlanta. From our windows we could spot some of the city’s top attractions, including the impressive Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia Aquarium, and much more - the perfect introduction to this vibrant and exciting city.

Day 2: Street Art, Tacos & Coca-Cola: A Day of Discovery

After waking up in what can only be described as one of the comfiest beds imaginable, we were ready to start exploring Atlanta - but not before fuelling up with an incredible breakfast buffet and a much-needed Starbucks coffee.

We were joined by our fantastic hosts from the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, who led us on our first adventure of the day. Rather than seeing the city by car, we set off on an 8-mile guided bike ride, which proved to be one of the best ways to experience Atlanta. Cycling through neighbourhoods, parks, and vibrant streets allowed us to discover areas that are often missed when travelling by road.

One highlight was Cabbagetown, a neighbourhood renowned for its colourful street art and fascinating history. The murals and creative atmosphere made this stop particularly memorable and gave us a real sense of Atlanta’s unique character and culture.

After working up an appetite, we stopped for lunch at Superica on Krog Street, where we enjoyed some truly phenomenal Mexican food. The table quickly filled with endless tortilla chips, fresh salsa, and generous bowls of guacamole - the perfect way to refuel before the afternoon’s activities.

Next, we visited the World of Coca-Cola, one of Atlanta’s most iconic attractions. The experience was both interactive and entertaining, as we explored the immersive exhibits, learned about the history of the famous brand, and even had the chance to create our own fizzy drink by mixing different flavours.

The afternoon continued with a visit to the Georgia Aquarium - the largest aquarium in the United States - and it absolutely lived up to the hype. From majestic whale sharks and beluga whales to playful sea lions and mesmerising jellyfish, the scale and diversity of marine life were truly incredible.

To round off an unforgettable day, we headed to The Sun Dial Restaurant, located at the very top of our hotel. The panoramic views across the Atlanta skyline were simply breathtaking, and the food was just as impressive. We toasted the evening with their famous peach cocktails, before enjoying exquisite main dishes and sampling a wide selection of appetisers, sides, and desserts.

After such a full and memorable day, it’s safe to say we all slept very well that night.

Day 3: Scenic Views, Beltlines & A Rooftop Evening

Our next stop was the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, an important and moving landmark that offers a deeper insight into the life and legacy of one of America’s most influential leaders. It was a powerful and reflective visit, and a meaningful way to learn more about Atlanta’s rich history.

From there, we travelled to Stone Mountain, where we took the cable car up to the summit for truly breathtaking views. On a clear day you can see for miles, and from the top we were told that the views stretch all the way to Alabama and Tennessee. The panoramic scenery made it easy to see why this is such a popular spot for both visitors and locals alike.

Later in the day we visited the Atlanta Botanical Garden, where the seasonal blooms were simply extraordinary. The beautifully landscaped gardens offered a calm and peaceful contrast to the buzz of the city - the kind of place where you could easily spend an afternoon strolling through the pathways or simply relaxing with a book surrounded by nature.

That evening, we experienced one of Atlanta’s most vibrant areas by walking part of the Atlanta BeltLine, a popular trail that connects neighbourhoods, restaurants, art installations and green spaces. We began at Krog Street Market and made our way to Ponce City Market - both of which are absolute must-visits when in the city.

To finish the evening, we took the elevator up to 9 Mile Station, a rooftop bar and restaurant with fantastic skyline views. Here we enjoyed delicious country fried chicken, expertly crafted cocktails, and relaxed around the rooftop firepit while chatting and taking in the atmosphere - the perfect way to end another fantastic day in Atlanta.

Day 4: VIP Experiences in the Heart of Atlanta

We were then treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the spectacular Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons. The tour gave us access to areas most visitors never get to see, including the Atlanta Falcons’ changing room, the impressive Delta Sky360 Club, and even a chance to step out pitch side.

We also discovered some of the stadium’s innovative features, such as the “make-your-own cocktail” bars and the incredibly efficient food service system designed to minimise queues - perfect for keeping fans focused on the action.

Afterwards, we spent the afternoon enjoying a little retail therapy and exploring the local shops before getting ready for an evening none of us will forget. That night we headed to State Farm Arena for a VIP experience at Lady Gaga’s concert. The atmosphere was electric from start to finish - an unforgettable night filled with incredible music, high energy, and plenty of singing along.

Day 5: Homeward Bound After an Unforgettable Adventure

Homeward Bound! Before heading to ATL airport, we explored the mansions of Buckhead and the Atlanta History Centre. At the airport, we relaxed in the Delta Sky Club with a glass of fizz and then enjoyed another seamless flight home in Delta Comfort and Delta Premium.
