Virgin Atlantic to make aviation history this October
- 26 September 2018
Virgin Atlantic and LanzaTech will make aviation history this October as Virgin Atlantic’s low carbon fuel partnership is set to take a step forward. Virgin Atlantic will be using LanzaTech’s innovative new sustainable aviation fuel in a commercial flight for the first time.
The fuel will be used in one of Virgin Atlantic’s 747s on a flight from Orlando to London Gatwick. As the demand for long haul travel is getting bigger, Virgin Atlantic aim to deliver in the most sustainable way possible, therefore since 2011, Virgin Atlantic has been working with LanzaTech to pioneer technology that captures and recycles carbon-rich industrial waste gases from steel mills into ethanol. The ethanol, in turn, can be used for a variety of low carbon products, including jet fuel.
