It remains a dynamic time for international travel and we’re continually reviewing our flying programme in response to Covid-19 restrictions.

Yesterday (7 October 2021) the UK Government announced  that from 0400 BST on Monday 11 October, several Virgin Atlantic destinations will be removed from the Red list and move to the ‘Rest of the World’ list. This is another positive step towards the UK’s recovery from the pandemic and a boost to international travel.

Virgin Atlantic Airways destinations moving to the ‘rest of the world’ list are: South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago and Cuba. For details of the steps our customers need to take when arriving in England from these countries please visit GOV.UK here. The rules will differ depending on our customers vaccination status.

It’s important that customers continue to check the requirements they need to comply with to enter these countries  before they travel, as some countries might be on the ‘rest of the world’ list, but still maintain their own entry protocols. The latest UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) foreign travel advice can also be found here.

Eligible travellers vaccinated in over 37 new countries and territories including South Africa, India, Hong Kong, Pakistan, St Lucia, St Vincent, Jamaica, Grenada, Bahamas, Nigeria will also now be treated the same as returning fully vaccinated UK residents. Customers must have had a complete course of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before arriving in England. More information on the criteria for being fully vaccinated and countries with approved proof is here.

The Red list will reduce to seven destinations: Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Peru and Venezuela. If customers have been in any of those countries in the previous 10 days before travel, they’ll need to follow the rules for Red list countries here.

The considerable reduction in the Red List and recognition of many more countries’ vaccination status is another positive step towards the UK’s recovery from the pandemic and a boost to international travel. We are ready to welcome fully vaccinated arrivals from India, South Africa, and Hong Kong to the UK. However, to ensure the full economic benefits are realised and that Britain’s global ambitions are met, all testing for fully vaccinated travellers from low risk destinations must be removed, bringing us into line with Europe and the US.

We look forward to receiving the date for the reopening of the US border for fully vaccinated international visitors as soon as possible, allowing the UK to strengthen ties with our most important economic partner, boosting trade and tourism as well as reuniting friends, families and business colleagues.
